THE FISHERMAN WHO WEPT

The boat shuddered in the tempestuous embrace of the elements wild
 Creaking and jerking, absolutely beguiled
The foaming waters upward crept
While the supreme being up there merrily slept
The fishermen stumbled, fumbled and cursed
And one fisherman hunched and woebegone
Huddled in a corner and wept.

Everything grew eerie in the lurid semi gloom
Ah, their little boat was heading towards its doom
In anger intense the waters raged
In impotent fury sighed the fishermen caged
They swayed and with folded hands prayed
 Their blood ran cold
 Groping frantically for a foothold
 And one hunched fisherman
Huddled in a corner and wept.

"Whatever will be, will be, don’t you weep,"
Consoled a pimply faced fisherman in a voice deep.
The evil spirits in the sky congregated
Dancing with joy at the fear they had created
Thick impenetrable murk from the water rose
The boat was surrounded by malevolent foes.
Leaden masses of thunderclouds overhead crept
Huddled in his corner the hunched fisherman wept.

The thunderclouds curved round the vault of the sky
Ah it was inescapable- the end was nigh.
They widened, spread and tumbled
There were claps of thunder
The sky was torn asunder
 Fiery crackling darts
Struck terror in the forlorn fishermen’s hearts
In his corner the hunched fisherman still wept.

Frenzied whirlwinds rushed out of the sinister night
Deafened by the tumult
Whirling across the sea in a savage dance.
Absolutely overwhelmed by their own performance
The enraged sea roared, spluttered and hissed
Up rose the frenzied waves and the sky they kissed
By intense fear his heart was gripped
The broad bosom of the sea tumultuously heaved
The woebegone fisherman grieved and wept and wept.

The evil spirits huddled together and whispered in hushed tones
Could no longer ignore the fisherman’s moans
  To pity moved
 Now they no longer grooved
Ah, happy chance
 They stopped the dance
The hunched fisherman from his corner crept
Pumped the air with joyous fists

 And wept.

  1. In the land locked scene of Jaipur you envisage the hierarchy of natural forces so tremendously it spans the actual fears of Man WOW Santosh
