OH HARK 35
Desperately clinging to each other in the moonlight wan
Their nerves twitched nervously as they waited for the morn.
Said the drummer,"I am feeling sleepy, let us go to sleep."
Hardly had he uttered these words when he fell in a heap.
Suddenly there were two gigantic wings in the dark
Fluttering viciously, making weird sounds, oh hark.
There were some whinnying and neighing horses too
What grotesquery was unfolding, the trio had no clue.
Was it some lost albatross or a blood sucking vampire
They shivered at the thought of its rapacious fire.
The frightened duo also fell down next to the drummer
Galvanized into frantic action was the jungle strummer.
Suddenly materialised a man with a look of gravity . Accompanied by a man who was in no mood for levity.
There was a man with a bristly moustache coughing
And another beefy one who could not stop laughing.
He stopped near the threesome, scowled and loudly swore.
In his hand a whip and an ugly scar on his broad forehead.
"If you are hungry, we can not offer you cake , only bread."
Remarked he with the air of a king spreading largesse.
Insects buzzed in anger in the bushes, celebrating the mess.
He growled showing broken teeth which were yellow.
The poet was absolutely repelled by this shabby fellow.
Said one, "we are the lackeys of the woman over there
And from now onwards, you three will be in our care".
In the surrounding darkness , their round eyes glittered.
The beefy one put his hand on his mouth and tittered.
Suddenly the drummer squirmed and started to scream.
Was he hallucinating or in the midst of a terrible dream?
Furiously chattering monkeys hurled themselves from trees.
A vicious storm howled , replacing the boisterous breeze.
Blood roared in the funnels of his ears and he shouted.
Hands poked and probed and kicked , his sanity he doubted.
He sprang up from the ground, but was again pushed down.
With hands on hips stood the caped one, on his face a frown.
What an imagination!
