OH HARK PART 9

The night had become darker, and he wondered whether he was travelling in time
Or someone was merely spouting a nonsense rhyme
.Suddenly the leaves in the tree rustled, and a bat  flew overhead
Some thing scuttled past his feet ,he was in a soup, he ducked his head.

Now a round tubby man, emerged on the scene, casserole in hand, and said,
" The food is laid, let the glad tidings spread".
Are these funny folk forever famished, wondered the lost man scratching his head
.And then stretched a hand toward the table and picked up a piece of bread.
.
Suddenly from the trees scuttled some men  banging their plates with their spoons.
To the lost man. they appeared like lumpen elements and goons.
.A nervous titter fell from his lips
At the emergence of a shrewish woman her hands on her  hips.

.She lit a fire and started whipping up some culinary treats.
The hungry hulks hopped towards the table, and took their seats
.Now at the table round, vitriolic verbal duelling followed
The lost man crept towards the shadow of  the trees, his confusion he swallowed.

He held his breath ,as the shrew shouted," I know you are chickening out
"You are the man I am after, of that I have no doubt."
At this raucous shout,an emaciated chicken, out of the bushes skittered
.Maybe it had heard the mention of its name, and felt embittered.
